Underreporting of thefts in Raipur City of Chhattisgarh state has come to light. In the month of April, 2014 alone about 269 cases of theft were reported in 20 police stations but FIRs were registered only in 95 cases.
This is just to give an impression that crime situation is under control. A similar situation prevails in Tamil Nadu where theft, snatching and burglary for gold jewellery is a daily occurrence as being reported in newspapers.
The state police should take effective steps to curb this trend and ensure the safety and security of its citizens and their properties.
